What do you feed your GoldFish?

Post by Kismet » Tue Jun 18, 2013 6:23 pm

Hi friends!

What do you feed your GoldFish? (I'm sorry if this is a duplicate but the last one I saw about this was dated 2009) ...

I'm feeding mine (alternating randomly):

1. Hai Feng Miracle red - floating pellets - recommended by SeaView when I first bought my fish / tank and stuff ... (my fish don't seem to like this as much as the others ...)

2. Tetra Goldfish - flakes - bought this cos the bottle said "clean and clear water formula" (my fish loves this)

3. Green peas - deskinned - cos my fish had poop that wouldn't drop off ... (my fish has difficulty eating this even after I chop them up.)

I'm considering giving my fish frozen/freeze dried bloodworms.

Any recommendations (of brands) or warnings? :confusion-shrug:

Is it true that you need to defrost them in a cup then drain the liquid out before putting it into the tank?

Any tips on how to feed frozen/freeze dried bloodworms? :character-spongebobdance:

And ... any difference between the two?? :confusion-scratchheadblue:

Hi hi!

I just bought the Hikari Lionhead ... What's the deal about this food- I notice a lot of people seem to be feeding their fish this ... Will it make them grow bigger, faster??? :laughing-lmao:

But my fish don't seem to know how to eat sinking pellets ... I put 4 pcs and 2 was eaten by one fish as they were being dropped and the other fish didn't notice it ... and now the 2 pellets sank and the fish don't seem interested ... Then I put some Tetra flakes and they ate that up greedily! So far they have only had floating pellets so maybe they dunno how to "respond" to sinking pellets? :laughing-rolling:

Are my fish stupid or what??? :laughing-rollingred:

Matter of use to it. Fish will naturally like flake more as I think is soft. Stop that if you want to feed Hikari food.

I try feeding as much variety as possible. Thus I feed many different foods for good health and nutrition here's a list,
Flake ( many different brands)
Goldfish floating pellets ( many different sizes and brands)
Koi pellets( for my real big fish)
Bread
Rice
Corn
Peas
Earth worms
White worms
Shrimp
Ox heart
Fish
Daphnia
I feed different foods every day. Found many ideas of what to feed them from reading articles in fishing magazines about carp fishing and what bait they use to catch carp ( cyprinus carpio) which has similar diet to goldfish.

Usually, I feed them hikari pellets.
Today, I put a very small piece of wholemeal bread peel in, they like to eat it.

I've some herb plants at the corridor. feeding them a herb plant which has purple leaves. Results not known yet. The fish eat some bits, while some flow into the filter, which is annoying. The other day, I put Tang-O vegetable in. This vegetable is soft. I forgot if they eat it or avoid it. I think they ate it. currently have a small piece of white cabbage in the tank. It doesn't rot that fast, not sure if the fish eat it as it is quite hard.
Just to add, today I put Spinach in, it is soft, they eat it.

I think goldfish has a delicate gut, so don't feed things that is hard.

Few days ago, I added a piece of dragonfruit peel in. Dragonfruit has small black seeds, which I do not know if it will cause problems. They finished the peel after 3 days.
